All Things Change...
I thought it would be a good idea to connect all of my ideas for change in one article. So I think this is deserving of a spot in my ‘big ideas’ section! Over the past month, I’ve done quite a bit of reading about the changes coming to education. Some of them, like the ideas of ‘digital badges’, ‘gamification’, BYOD , and ‘flipped classrooms’ are pretty exciting to think about exploring. Others, like deeply adaptive computer-based learning, I find more concerning from a philosophical point of view. But, make no mistake, change is coming!
I’m trying to be open minded, proactive and wise with my goals for change. I realize that the changes I’ll be able to make in my own well-established organization will have to be on the edges of things at first. They can’t be large-ticket overhauls of everything right now. I’ll need to start in my classroom. I’ll have to be a change agent with those around me. But I also know I’ll need to communicate with administration and board members too. I’ll need to continue to talk to those around me about the changes we’ll need to make together. This is going to take some time!
I also realize that I’m not done learning yet. I just placed an order for “Flip Your Classroom” based on the recommendation of a colleague who has already done just that. And I’ve collected a massive list of tools and sites that I haven’t gotten around to evaluating yet. There’s bound to be at least two or three very usable gems in there! Even more tools can be found on Vicki Davis' The BYOD Toolkit.
Take a look around at the links, see what I'm thinking. As always, I'd love to talk with you more about any idea that you find interesting on the page.
